The Redpath rain canopy for Orchard and other 'large area' rain and frost protection applications meets the needs of customers seeking a very competitively priced canopy protection cover. This system is typically built in large areas and utilises a cable and raker post outer wall brace ring system supplied by the customer or their preferred contractor.

The Redpath Orchard rain canopy can be used for crops such as Nashi, Kiwifruit, Blueberry, Cherries, Passionfruit etc, - for simple rain or hail protection and seasonal temperature and humidity control. The design uses a limited structural steel components with support poles often being part of the clients existing structure or supplied as an additional component.
The Redpath Keritruss roof portals are specially shaped for optimal resistance to ponding, condensation formation and wind loads.  They are formed into this specific shape using three manufacturing processes and offer strength, and high compatibility with the Duratough 210 micron extruded covering. The portals clip directly to the cables via Redpaths special truss foot-clamp design and the cladding is fastened with the Redpath Omega cable clip system.

There has been strong interest from the kiwifruit sector for this cost-effective system for possible use against the bacteria PSA ( Pseudomonas syringae Actinidiae ) with some research from around the world showing that keeping the kiwifruit vines protected from rain slows the progress and spread of this PSA disease to a "manageable level" .

The design is not targeted as a greenhouse crop production facility and it does not include any provision for crop support or accurate environmental control (other than a general purpose rain/hail shelter). The gutters (if included) are also non structural and is not a 100% water excluding design as they use a flexible liner or porous water guide textile in their makeup.

The Duratough claddings thickness and elastic polymer is another key component in the success of the Orchard canopy system, the special loadings that are placed on the covering by the cable based clipping system and the structure itself means that the cladding must compliment the engineering and meet specific working requirements.  Duratough life expectancy when used in horticultural greenhouse crops often exceeds 7 years, and it is supplied with a factory backed pro-rata UV warranty.  Duratough is treated on the inside surface with an anti-drip feature to further assist with keeping the crops beneath dryer from condensation droplets falling.
